This area in Louisville Kentucky is named this because it sits on a ridge between the middle and south forks of Beargrass Creek. It’s locally know as, "Restaurant Row" because along a three mile stretch of Bardstown Road and Baxter Avenue, there resides a very high concentration of restaurants, nightclubs, and eclectic businesses.
The neighborhoods off of Bardstown Road are primarily single family homes that range from working class neighborhoods up to some of the most expensive residences in Louisville. For example, one of the most famous Kentucky Derby parties hosted by the Wrigley’s Doublemint Twins, Cyb and Patricia Barnstable, is held in the Highlands.
According to the 2000 census, The Highlands had a population of nearly 33,000. Many of the neighborhoods in The Highlands have the highest percentage of college graduates and, conversely, the highest average income in Louisville!
